We have decided to cancel the Litter-Pick scheduled for this Saturday when we realised that all the committee memebrs were away, ill, or had other commitments; that we had not set a time for meeting, and we had not heard from the Parks service about whether they would be providing bags and gloves. Our impression is that we hadn’t got the word out, didn’t have everything in place, and that the best thing to do is post a notice sying it’s been cancelled. So circumstances have conspired against this particular event. We may try again later this year, particularly as we’ve heard complaints about the pond outlet being blocked with debris. So perhaps we will set a cleanup day around the pond.
This is also a good moment to mention that we want to hear your views about things that need doing. We feel we should be getting a regular report from parks management/workers, and having specific queries from the public will help with this.
A couple of outstanding issues are the springs flowing across the footpath near the Long Pond and the graffiti/damage to the brick wall at the Henbury Rose Garden. The springs have had several attempts at repair, but so far have clogged the drains put in place.
Dealing with the graffiti has been set aside indefinitely with the explanation that the bricks are sensitive to the cleaning fluids, and need some sort of special treatment. But now that part of the wall has fallen off, it’s about time that the whole thing was tended to properly.
If you have specific maintenance concerns, please let us know and we will take them up with the parks management.

I notice (26th April 2008) that the pond adjacent to the Henbury Walled garden has a lot of rubbish in it and there is quite an unpleasant smell.
I would think that if it is to be cleaned it would first have to be drained. Is it known whether this pond has an outlet and is it lined?
I don’t think that this job can be left to amateurs but I wonder if the Coucil have a section who could do the initial survey to decide what needs to be done to restore this stretch of water to something like an attraction in the Park
