Follow-up! Nature improvements at Highbury, Friday 4th September

A large group assembled for Alf Dimmock’s fascinating walk/talk this morning. He’s a Local Naturalist and ex Senior Park Ranger. The event was called Between the Oaks, Nature improvements at Highbury since 2010. You can read about it here. (Click READ MORE for the link)

Alf writes:

Highbury Park is blessed with Oak trees ranging in age from last year’s acorn seedlings to a veteran that was seeded in 1750.

Over the past 15 – 20 years naturally regenerating woodland has become established in certain areas of the park, and almost every area of the park has improved in wildlife terms over the past 15 years thanks to collaboration and the work of Highbury Park Friends, BCC Rangers, Volunteers, Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife Trust and the Chamberlain Highbury Trust. Well done.

The walk visited areas of the park highlighting Nature Improvement Areas (NIA) including woodland, wetlands and meadows developed via management, maintenance and non intervention.
