Hi Kim, Just to update you on your query re the handkerchief tree. Our tree expert says it is Davidia involucrata which is from China where it is endangered in the wild

Hi Kim
Is it the crucible wall you are referring to – it is made of blue brick industrial crucibles? If you click on the resources tab, then publications, then Historic Landscape Survey, then entire document you can download the Landscape Survey document which has detailed history of the estate. Page 72 gives more information on the wall. The Chamberlain Highbury Trust is currently researching more about this feature of the estate.
We are trying to locate more information on the tree you have enquired about and will reply further when we have more information
Kim
Dear HPF,
I am interested to know when the angry wall was built, how long it stayed open/revealed, when it became overgrown and when it was finally revealed once more? Is there any evidence to back up the story that it is made from concrete mouldings of bomb-shells filled with concrete as stated by Martin Mullaney? Some people say they are actual bomb shells. On another note, what cultivar is the handkerchief tree in the Italian garden? I telephoned to ask but did not receive a reply. Thanks, Kim
